Welcome!

We are a family of 5 humans and a cat. While our two eldest kids are off having their own adventures, they do pop in from time to time, and we couldn’t share our journey without including them.

We moved on and off Karma before beginning a refit in Nov 2023 and continuing in full steam rebuilding until moving back aboard in May 2025. As with many boaters, the boat work was not complete then, nor now, but we have been living aboard her full-time since May 2025.

Crew List:

We have 4 aboard full time: Brent, Pia, Ryder and our cat Challa. Brent has had a long sailing career, including racing and delivering boats, as a boat builder and now as a cruiser. His most recent passion is converting recreational and commercial vehicles to hybrid electric systems – something that we implemented on Karma. Pia is taking a break from teaching and is finding her way without a garden, but with an ever-changing view, and so much to learn! Ryder is 20, also along for the ride and frequently called on to repair and problem-solve various boat jobs, most recently the winches. We often find him gaming as he hides from the heat and looks forward to doing more fishing. We also have 2 daughters who are living around the world. Isobella & Will are in the UK and graciously came aboard for the trip down from Victoria to Mexico, and stayed for a while in La Paz. Roxane is at Uni in New Zealand and will come for visits as often as she can; we enjoyed January with her immensely! We look forward to other friends and family visiting as time passes.

I have 8 months of adventures and relaxation to record here on Sailing Karma, that is a lot of “ketchup” to do. We’d love to have you along on our adventures, but recognize this is largely a recording of our journey for ourselves. It will include favourite photos, memories, challenges and musings on what we figure out along the way. It is unlikely to be polished, and only periodically exciting 🙂 I will record a variety of perspectives, as it has already become clear that the same events are not experienced identically, nor at times in even a remotely similar fashion. Disclaimer: as the primary writer (Pia) my bias is likely a dominant flavour, though I will endeavour to include alternate perspectives.
